Daphne’s sophomore quarterback, J.J. Thibodeaux, emerged as the Week 1 winner of the Cunningham Bounds Press-Register football Player of the Week award, receiving 28% of the total votes. Thibodeaux impressed with his performance, completing 12-of-18 passes for 190 yards, scoring a touchdown, and running for two more scores against McGill-Toolen. Robertsdale’s Quin Shields and T.R. Miller’s Myles Johnson followed closely behind in the poll, both receiving significant support from fans.
Shields, a junior fullback from Robertsdale, ran for 191 yards and two touchdowns, helping his team break a 24-game losing streak with a 31-0 victory over Chickasaw. Johnson, a running back and linebacker for T.R. Miller, showcased his talent after returning from an ACL injury, rushing for 110 yards and two touchdowns while making eight tackles in a 28-7 win over Reeltown. Johnson, a University of Florida commit, is a promising player to watch this season.
