Alabama Dominates Mercer in Impressive Home Victory
In a commanding display, Alabama’s women’s soccer team secured a decisive 3-0 victory over Mercer, showcasing their prowess on the field and maintaining a strong home presence. Head Coach Wes Hart expressed pride in his team’s performance, highlighting their aggressive mentality and ability to control the game from the outset. "We dominated the ball, territory, and chances,” he remarked. Despite Mercer’s organized defense, the Tide effectively broke through, demonstrating strategic adaptability throughout the match.
The scoring began with Larkin Thomason, whose sprint into the box set up the first goal, guided by Melina Rebimbas. Thomason deftly placed the ball into the left corner. Just eight minutes later, star player Paul added her fourth goal of the season—the 32nd of her career—after receiving a crucial assist from both Thomason and Paige Thompson.
Alabama maintained a solid 2-0 lead until the 85th minute when Rebimbas clinched the victory with a beautifully bent shot from distance. The Tide’s defense stood strong, allowing Mercer a mere single shot, while Alabama unleashed a staggering 31 attempts.
Notably, Thomason and Rebimbas each recorded impressive three-point games, contributing a goal and an assist. Goalkeeper Madi Munguia also celebrated her second shutout of the season, previously sharing honors with Coralie Lallier.
Looking ahead, Alabama is set to challenge itself against top-tier opponents, traveling to face No. 22 North Carolina on Thursday, Sept. 4. The match is slated to begin at 6 p.m. CT and will be available on ACCNX. Coach Hart expressed excitement for the upcoming challenges, confident in his team’s ability to rise to the occasion.
