Cold Spell Hits Alabama: Below-Freezing Temperatures Anticipated

Alabama residents faced a frosty start on Monday morning, with temperatures dipping into the low 20s in some areas, leading to another potentially frigid night ahead. The National Weather Service has warned that below-freezing conditions will persist into Tuesday morning, with further drops expected Tuesday night, possibly reaching the coldest temperatures of the week.

Reports from across the state early Monday revealed the biting cold, with Gadsden registering as one of the chilliest spots at 23 degrees. Other notable low temperatures included 25 degrees in Anniston, 26 in Decatur, and 28 in Huntsville. Conditions were slightly milder in southern Alabama, where Mobile saw a low of 35 degrees.

As the first half of the week progresses, highs today are expected to peak in the 40s for the northern parts of the state, while central Alabama may see temperatures reach the upper 40s to mid-50s. Southern Alabama is likely to experience a mild afternoon, with highs surpassing 60 degrees in coastal regions.

Looking ahead, tonight’s lows will plummet further, especially in the north where temperatures could fall back into the low 20s. Central Alabama’s low temperatures are projected to hit the upper 20s, while southern areas will hover in the low to mid-30s.

Tuesday’s daytime temperatures may prove to be colder, with the national forecast indicating a significant dip further into midweek. Following a brief cold snap, temperatures are expected to slightly warm by Wednesday as the week progresses, but the outlook indicates continued below-average temperatures across much of the state, particularly through early December.
