DeKalb County authorities are currently investigating an apparent murder-suicide that occurred in the Grove Oak community. Sheriff Nick Welden stated that deputies discovered the bodies of a man and a woman with apparent gunshot wounds inside a residence after a welfare check. It is believed that the man shot the woman before taking his own life. The victims have been identified as Beverly Vitale, 84, and her son Scott Vitale, 60. The incident has left the community shocked and saddened.
Welden expressed his gratitude to the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, and the Geraldine Fire Dept. for their assistance in the investigation. He also stated that the family and friends of the victims will need prayers and support in the coming months as they try to cope with this tragic loss.
