Tuberville is edging closer to joining governor’s race, though decision still pending

Senator Tommy Tuberville from Alabama is still weighing his options on whether to run for governor in 2026. Despite reports claiming he had made up his mind to enter the race, Tuberville stated that he and his wife are still praying on how best to serve the people of Alabama. A decision is expected in May, just before candidates can start fundraising for the 2026 primaries.
If Tuberville decides to run for governor, it would leave his Senate seat open. Former Trump supporter turned critic Kyle Sweetser has already announced he will run for the seat as a Democrat. Tuberville won the Senate seat in 2021 by defeating Democratic Senator Doug Jones.
With Governor Kay Ivey term-limited, the race for governor is open. Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth and Agriculture Commissioner Rick Pate are also said to be considering running for the position. Tuberville expressed interest in the top office in March, stating that as a CEO of a state, he could help more people in a certain amount of time. He emphasized that he will not be in the Senate forever, even if he chooses to stay. Voters in Alabama eagerly await Tuberville’s decision on his political future.
