A Weaver High School student in Calhoun County, Alabama has been arrested for allegedly making a terroristic threat towards another student. The investigation began after a parent reported the threat to a school resource officer. The student has been charged with first-degree making a terroristic threat, which is a felony offense, and is currently in custody at the Coosa Valley Juvenile Detention Center.
Sheriff Matthew Wade stated that an ongoing investigation is also looking into a social media threat against several schools in the county. While it is believed that the arrested student is not the creator of the social media message, they referenced it in their threat towards the other student.
This incident is part of a trend of threats being made by teenagers in Alabama following a deadly school shooting in Georgia. Law enforcement officials in Birmingham, Montgomery, Dothan, and Southside have announced arrests in recent weeks related to alleged threats made by teens.
The arrest of this Weaver High School student comes amidst growing concerns about school safety and the need for increased vigilance in preventing violent incidents. Authorities are urging parents, students, and school staff to remain vigilant and report any threats or suspicious behavior to law enforcement.
