Suspect in fatal shooting of 16-year-old boy in Tuskegee discovered dead in car accident

Tragedy struck in Tuskegee over the weekend when a 16-year-old boy was killed in a shooting at Josh’s convenience store. The incident, which occurred at 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, also saw the death of a person of interest who was found hours later in a wrecked car in a ravine.

Interim Police Chief Patrick Mardis revealed that the teen victim was believed to have been committing a crime outside the store when the person of interest followed him and others in a vehicle. Shots were fired, resulting in the teen being taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Mardis mentioned that the store had been the site of a previous shooting in June that left one dead and three injured. He added that all individuals involved in the incident were known to each other.

The cause of death for the person of interest is still under investigation, and an autopsy is pending. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including ALEA, are assisting in the ongoing investigation.

This tragic event has shocked the community of Tuskegee and raised concerns about the safety of the area. As authorities work to piece together the details of the shooting, residents are left mourning the loss of a young life and grappling with the violence that has once again plagued their town.
