Representative Shedd to Step Down from House Position and Transition to Pro Tem’s Office

Rep. Randall Shedd, R-Fairview, a long-standing member of the Alabama House of Representatives, will be resigning from his position to take on a new role as Senate President Pro Tem Garland Gudger’s director of constituent affairs. This new position within the pro tem’s office will see Shedd bringing his dedication and hard work ethic to serve the needs of his fellow Alabamians.

Shedd, who has served in public office for almost 50 years, has a distinguished record in elected positions, having previously been a Cullman County commissioner and mayor of Fairview. His decision to leave the House, where he has served since 2013, is bittersweet as he pursues this new opportunity to continue his public service under the leadership of Pro Tem Gudger.

In addition to Shedd’s appointment, Gudger has also hired Ashley McLain as the office’s deputy chief of staff for policy and budgets. McLain’s experience in governmental affairs will be crucial in handling public policy issues and navigating complex budget matters within the Senate.

Gudger, who officially became the Senate’s leader last week, expressed confidence in both Shedd and McLain to effectively carry out their new roles. With Shedd’s reputation for responsiveness and dedication, and McLain’s experience in public policy, the pro tem’s office is set to continue serving the needs of the people of Alabama. Gov. Kay Ivey will call a special election to fill the vacancy left by Shedd’s resignation from the House District 11, which includes parts of Cullman and Blount counties.
