Rebundle: The Plant-Based Hair Company Using Technology to Forge a ‘Non-Toxic Future for Black Beauty’ Wins Its First Patent

Rebundle CEO Ciara Imani May Achieves Patent Milestone with Eco-Friendly Hair Innovation

ST. LOUIS, MO – Ciara Imani May, founder and CEO of Rebundle, is making waves in the beauty industry by addressing common hair care challenges with safe, sustainable solutions. Inspired by her own experiences with scalp irritation caused by synthetic hair, May turned her frustration into innovation. During a recent appearance on the “Black Tech Green Money” podcast, she shared how her discomfort with plastic-based hair products motivated her to create safer alternatives.

May’s journey began after college when she noticed her scalp reacting poorly to traditional synthetic hair. Driven by a desire to find a more comfortable, eco-friendly option, she dedicated time to researching materials and discovered the harmful ingredients in existing brands. This exploration led to the establishment of Rebundle, which specializes in braiding hair made from banana fiber through its unique, patented technology known as ReGen Hair Fiber™.

“With our mission focused on transforming the hair industry, we aim to provide safer, non-toxic products that are biodegradable and vegan-friendly,” May stated. Rebundle’s offerings promise an itch-free experience without the need for laborious preparation, such as vinegar soaking.

In January 2022, May successfully raised over $1.4 million in a pre-seed funding round, significantly bolstering her vision. The latest achievement for Rebundle includes securing its first patent, a milestone that underscores the company’s commitment to innovation. “This protects our unique braiding hair technology and ensures we are paving the way for a safer future in Black beauty,” May added.

With sustainability at its core, Rebundle is challenging the dominance of toxic hair products and advocating for transparency in the beauty industry. As the company continues to grow, May emphasizes, “It’s time to Ditch the Itch.”
