Press Release: Harpersville Man Arrested in Pell City Road-Rage Shooting
Pell City, AL — A Harpersville man, Ethan Crawford, 29, was arrested following a road-rage incident that escalated into gunfire on Wednesday night. Crawford faces serious charges, including three counts of attempted murder, three counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle, and one count of first-degree assault.
Pell City police responded to a 911 call shortly before 9:30 p.m. concerning a shooting at the Sonic Drive-In on Highway 231 South. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. According to Pell City Police Chief Clay Morris, Crawford unleashed multiple rounds into the victim’s vehicle, narrowly missing the victim’s 5-year-old son, who was secured in a car seat.
The shooting incident occurred approximately half a mile north of Sonic, prompting an immediate search for the suspect, who fled southbound on Highway 231. Through investigations led by local authorities, including the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, and Harpersville Police Department, Crawford was identified as the shooter and taken into custody the following day.
"This incident highlights the dangers of road rage and the necessity for people to manage their tempers on the road," Chief Morris commented.
Crawford is currently held in custody, and authorities are pursuing further inquiries into the shooting. The case underscores a commitment to public safety and the swift response by local law enforcement to prevent further harm.
