Geraldine High School Student Charged After Bringing Gun on Campus
Geraldine, AL – A student at Geraldine High School was charged and transported to juvenile authorities on Wednesday after bringing a loaded gun to school. According to Principal Robert Richey, the situation unfolded early in the morning when a student reported the incident to a teacher, who promptly informed the administration. Within five minutes of receiving the report, the student was in Richey’s office with the School Resource Officer (SRO), and the weapon was secured.
This alarming incident marks the second occurrence of a student with a firearm in local schools within the week, following a similar situation at Bob Jones High School just two days earlier. In response to questions regarding the school’s decision not to initiate a lockdown, Richey reassured the community that “no one was threatened and, more importantly, no one was injured.” He stated that the situation was swiftly managed according to law enforcement guidelines, as the potential threat had been neutralized.
In an effort to enhance campus safety, the school announced plans to acquire a trained security dog capable of detecting firearms and vaping devices. The dog’s training is currently underway, and the SRO will also receive training later in the Spring, ensuring that the canine will be present on campus full-time thereafter.
Geraldine High School officials are urging the community to remain calm amid circulating rumors and gossip surrounding the recent events. They emphasize the importance of maintaining open lines of communication and ensuring a safe educational environment for all students.
