Former Florence High School standout Chandler Brewer has returned to the NFL, signing with the New Orleans Saints after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Brewer joins the Saints’ training camp roster as offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk is on reserve/physically unable to perform due to offseason knee surgery. Brewer, who opted out of the 2020 season due to the pandemic, spent most of last season on the Jaguars’ practice squad.
Brewer, who made the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted rookie in 2019, has played in a total of 13 games in the NFL. At Florence High School, he was an All-State selection and helped lead the team to the AHSAA semifinals in 2014. At Middle Tennessee, Brewer was a four-year starter and earned All-Conference USA recognition despite undergoing radiation treatments for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2018.
The Saints will begin their preseason schedule on Aug. 10 against the Arizona Cardinals and their regular-season slate on Sept. 8 against the Carolina Panthers. Brewer’s signing comes as the team navigates injuries and roster changes, providing depth and experience on the offensive line.
