MSU Football Recruits East Lansing 2025 RB Jace Clarizio Back from Alabama

Spartans Secure East Lansing Star Jace Clarizio from Alabama on Eve of National Signing Day

East Lansing, MI – Michigan State University (MSU) football coach Jonathan Smith successfully flipped East Lansing High School running back Jace Clarizio back into their 2025 recruiting class less than 24 hours before National Signing Day. Clarizio initially committed to MSU on May 14 after dreaming of playing for his hometown team, but later switched his commitment to the University of Alabama on November 26, following an official visit that he described as a positive experience.

However, in a dramatic turn of events, Clarizio reconsidered his decision just before signing day. "I went with my gut and with my heart," he stated after officially signing with the Spartans Wednesday morning. Smith highlighted the importance of maintaining competitive relationships with recruits, especially local talents like Clarizio, whom he believes has a bright future on the team.

The 6-foot, 190-pound athlete had an impressive senior season, rushing for 1,679 yards and scoring 28 touchdowns for the Trojans. His outstanding performance elevated him to a four-star recruit during his senior year, although he was later downgraded to a three-star by the 247Sports composite rankings. Despite this, Clarizio remains ranked as the No. 35 running back in the nation and the No. 5 player in Michigan.

With offers from prominent programs like USC, Wisconsin, and Iowa, Clarizio’s decision to join MSU marks a significant win for the Spartans, who have historically struggled to recruit local talent. The program hopes this pivotal recruitment move signals a turning point in their rebuilding efforts under Coach Smith.
