Moody Blue Devils Celebrate Historic Softball Championship
Choccolocco Park, AL – In an exhilarating finish to the Class 5A state championship, the Moody Blue Devils claimed their first-ever title with a 7-4 victory over Houston Academy on Tuesday. The team celebrated their success in a unique way—taking a plunge into the lake, a fitting tribute to their hard-fought journey.
After suffering a heartbreak in last year’s final against Jasper, the Blue Devils came back strong, wrapping up an impressive undefeated run in the tournament, which included victories over Boaz, Brewbaker Tech, and Springville. Their remarkable season culminated in an outstanding 41-7 record, highlighted by a 19-game winning streak.
In the championship showdown, the teams were locked in a tight 4-4 tie heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. The turning point came when Tournament MVP Taylor Rogers hit a go-ahead RBI double, igniting a three-run rally that secured the lead for Moody. Kendall Trimm and Abi Gray also contributed to the scoreboard, showcasing the depth of the team’s talent.
Coach Becky Seymour emphasized the resilience of her players, stating, “They have no quit in them at all… They just never count themselves out.” Stars of the game included Gray, who achieved a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, and both Rogers and Lacey Nichols, who added two hits each.
The Blue Devils’ success is underscored by the guidance of eight senior leaders who fostered a strong sense of teamwork and determination. “They took this team and said, ‘You know what? We’re going to do this,’” Seymour reflected proudly.
With their championship victory, Moody not only carried home a trophy but also the spirit and pride of a community united in celebration.
