Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has announced a significant boost for electric vehicles in the state, with $11.2 million in grant funding being awarded. The funding will go towards installing electric vehicle charging stations at fueling locations across Alabama’s interstate system, as well as providing training for students at Bevill State Community College in Jasper.
Governor Ivey highlighted the benefits of having strategic charging stations, not only for EV drivers but also for companies producing electric vehicles in Alabama, creating more high-paying jobs. ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell emphasized the importance of reliable charging infrastructure for electric vehicle drivers.
The grants will fund projects at various locations, such as Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores in Falkville, Gadsden, Hamilton, Jasper, Heflin, Tuscaloosa-Cottondale, Eutaw, Clanton, Montgomery, Fort Deposit, Evergreen, Atmore, and Irvington. These projects include installing dual-port chargers and expanding training centers to support electric vehicle infrastructure maintenance.
The funding aims to support Alabama’s progress in installing charging systems along major roadways, ensuring that drivers who choose electric vehicles have access to reliable charging options while traveling through the state.
