Press Release: Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey Allocates $2.3 Million in Grants to Combat Domestic Violence
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – In a significant step towards addressing domestic violence in Alabama, Governor Kay Ivey announced the allocation of approximately $2.3 million in grants on Monday to six organizations dedicated to supporting adult and child victims. Highlighting the urgency of the issue, Gov. Ivey stated, “Violence against any individual is an abhorrent act, and offenders should be arrested and punished.”
The funding, sourced from federal dollars provided by the U.S. Department of Justice and administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), aims to ensure victims have access to vital services for physical and emotional healing.
“ADECA is pleased to partner with Gov. Ivey and these agencies,” said ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell, reinforcing the shared commitment to help victims reclaim their lives.
The largest portion of the grant, $1.43 million, was awarded to the Alabama Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). This organization, operating since 1973, supports 15 local programs across the state, offering training and resources to assist children affected by abuse, neglect, and domestic violence.
Other recipients include:
- Russell County Child Advocacy Center – $54,087 for advocacy and support services for child victims in Russell County.
- Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center – $172,387 to provide shelter and support to abused children in several counties.
- Montgomery Area Family Violence Program (Family Sunshine Center) – $217,476 to assist sexual assault victims in multiple counties.
- One Place of the Shoals – $96,000 for emotional support and legal guidance for victims in four counties.
