McElroy underscored the demanding nature of college football, noting, "You have to play at a high level every week, and if you don’t, you’re in big trouble." He suggested that the absence from the playoff will serve as a crucial wake-up call for the players. “This is from a Bama fan perspective; I am happy this happened. Had they gotten in, it would have reinforced a dangerous complacency," he explained.

McElroy contended that the selection committee’s choice could provide a valuable lesson for the team: "When you touch the stove and it’s hot and you get burned, you’re not going to touch it the next time.”
