Ex-Navy SEAL and Sheriff Candidate First GOP Contender for Tuberville’s Alabama Senate Seat

Former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson Announces Senate Run Following Tuberville’s Decision

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Jared Hudson, a former Navy SEAL who has dedicated his life to combating human trafficking, has officially declared his candidacy for the U.S. Senate, eyeing the seat currently held by Tommy Tuberville. Hudson’s announcement comes just a day after Tuberville stated he would be running for governor next year instead of seeking reelection.

Hudson, who is the first Republican to announce his candidacy for the upcoming primary, emphasized his commitment to President Trump’s America First Agenda. "I’ve spent my life taking the fight to America’s enemies," Hudson remarked in a press release. "Now it’s time to continue the mission in Washington."

A resident of Birmingham with his wife and three children, Hudson has previously run for sheriff of Jefferson County, securing 48% of the vote in the 2022 election against Sheriff Mark Pettway. He’s a graduate of Mortimer Jordan High School and holds an MBA, further illustrating his diverse background.

After completing fire college and initially becoming a firefighter, Hudson chose to join the military and served multiple deployments as a SEAL operator during significant operations such as Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. Additionally, he worked as a deputy with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and later became an investigator for a prosecutor’s office in Indiana.

In addition to founding The Shooting Institute, where he trains law enforcement and civilians, Hudson co-founded the Covenant Rescue Group, which focuses on training law enforcement to combat human trafficking.

With Hudson’s entry, the race heats up, joining Democratic candidate Kyle Sweetser, who announced his candidacy in April. Other potential Republican contenders include Attorney General Steve Marshall and former Congressman Mo Brooks, among others. The competition is shaping up as Alabama gears up for the election.
