Caroleene Dobson Announces Bid for Alabama Secretary of State
Montgomery, AL – Republican Caroleene Dobson officially declared her candidacy for Alabama Secretary of State in the 2026 election on Thursday. In her announcement, Dobson emphasized her commitment to enhancing election security and reducing operational costs for businesses in Alabama.
"As Secretary of State, I will reduce fees on Alabama businesses, streamline services, and stand firm against liberal activist groups attempting to challenge the integrity of our elections," she stated. Dobson, an attorney and current shareholder at the Montgomery law firm Maynard Nexsen, specializes in natural resources, commercial finance, and real estate law.
Her political career began in 2023 when she ran for Congress in Alabama’s newly redrawn second district, successfully advancing through a competitive seven-candidate GOP primary but ultimately losing to Democrat Shomari Figures in the general election.
A native of Monroe County, Dobson holds degrees from Harvard College and Baylor University School of Law. As a mother, she expressed a desire for secure elections, underscoring the importance of a stable future for her daughters. "We have strong laws, but improving their enforcement is vital," she noted.
Dobson plans to model Alabama’s election oversight after Florida’s Election Crimes and Division unit, advocating for dedicated teams to investigate voter fraud proactively. Additionally, she pledged to support President Trump’s election reforms and leverage her legal expertise against external groups challenging Alabama’s election security.
Current Secretary of State Wes Allen is vying for the lieutenant governor position, while Andrew Sorrell, the state auditor, has also declared his candidacy for the secretary of state. The primary elections are set for May 19, 2026.
