Two brothers from Hoover, Alabama have been sentenced to nearly three years each in prison for running an illegal online fencing scheme that resulted in over a million dollars worth of sales. Abdurrahman Amar, 32, received a 34-month sentence, while his brother Yahya Amar, 33, was sentenced to 30 months. The brothers were charged with conspiracy to engage in the interstate transportation of stolen goods.
According to court documents, Abdurrahman organized a network of professional thieves who stole electronic devices and tools from retailers such as Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot, and Lowe’s. The brothers then sold these stolen goods online, primarily on eBay and Facebook, at a significant discount from their retail value. The stolen goods were shipped to customers both in the U.S. and internationally.
Over the course of their scheme, the brothers completed approximately 7,283 separate sales of stolen goods on eBay, generating a total revenue of over $1 million. Judge Madeline Haikala handed down the sentences, emphasizing the serious nature of the crime and the need for punishment.
The brothers’ illegal operation was brought to an end following an investigation by law enforcement. The case serves as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in illegal activities, especially those involving theft and fraud. The Amar brothers now face the consequences of their actions as they spend time behind bars.
