In a disappointing turn of events, the No. 2 seed North Florida women’s tennis team suffered a tough 4-1 loss to No. 3 seed North Alabama in the 2025 ASUN Tennis Championships Semifinals. The match, held at the UNF Tennis Complex, saw North Alabama secure the doubles point with wins at the one and two lines, despite a hard-fought effort by North Florida’s Gabby Goyins and Alisa Lyshko at the three line. North Florida managed to claim first-set wins on four courts, but North Alabama extended their lead to 2-0 before junior Jasmin Makela secured a victory on court five to make it 2-1. Unfortunately, North Alabama ultimately clinched the win with victories on courts two and six.
Moving into singles play, North Florida’s Laurie Barendse faced off against Stanislava Bobrovnikova in a tightly contested match that remains unresolved. Ada Karabacak of North Alabama defeated Isabel Oliveira, while Eeva Ristola secured a victory over Anslee Long. Despite Makela’s win on court five, North Florida could not bounce back as North Alabama claimed wins on courts two and six.
With this loss, North Florida’s season comes to an end with a 12-7 record, while North Alabama advances to face top-seeded Stetson in the next round. It was a tough battle for North Florida, but they can hold their heads high after a strong season in the ASUN conference.
