The SEC is proving to be a quarterback factory for the NFL, with 30 former SEC quarterbacks on training-camp rosters and potentially the most NFL starting QBs in conference history by the end of the season. Nine NFL teams already have former SEC quarterbacks as starters this year, with two more likely to join them. Notable SEC quarterbacks starting this season include Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts, and Dak Prescott. Newcomers Jayden Daniels and Marcus Mariota are also poised to make an impact.
The SEC alumni on NFL rosters this year span across various teams, including Mac Jones with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Jacoby Brissett with the New England Patriots. The addition of Oklahoma and Texas quarterbacks to SEC rosters, like Shane Buechele and Sam Ehlinger, adds more depth to the talent pool.
With a record-equalling nine former SEC quarterbacks starting in 2023, this year looks to be another strong showing for the conference. The competition is intense with 116 QBs on active rosters, but the SEC’s reputation for producing top NFL talent remains strong. For more SEC coverage, visit the SEC page of AL.com.
