Former Alabama wide receiver Tyrell Shavers is set to make his NFL debut on Sunday as the Buffalo Bills take on the Houston Texans. Shavers was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster due to an injury to leading receiver Khalil Shakir.
Shavers had a limited playing time in his three seasons with the Crimson Tide, but has since played for Mississippi State and San Diego State before signing with the Bills as a rookie free agent in 2022. After spending the 2023 season on the practice squad, Shavers will finally get the chance to showcase his skills on the field.
In addition to Shavers, two other players with Alabama football roots, cornerback Darious Williams and outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon, are also set to make their 2024 season debuts on Sunday after being restored to their respective teams’ active rosters. Three other players from Alabama high schools and colleges have also been elevated from practice squads to active status for their Sunday games.
Each NFL team is allowed to elevate two practice squad members for each game, with a limit of three elevations for each player in a season. Players like Tony Brown and Carl Lawson have already reached their limit and will need to be signed to the 53-man roster to continue playing after Sunday.
