A verdict has been reached in the Morgan County killings case, with Frederic Rogers being found guilty of three counts of capital murder. The shooting, which took the lives of seven people in June 2020, was believed to stem from a dispute among members of a motorcycle club. Rogers, along with another man who has yet to stand trial, was accused of carrying out the heinous crime. The victims included four men and three women, with ages ranging from 45 to 17.

In other legal news, a federal appeals court has declined to consider a preliminary injunction regarding Alabama’s law banning puberty blockers and hormone therapy as transgender care for children. The Vulnerable Child Compassion and Protection Act makes it a Class C felony for doctors to provide such treatments, with exceptions for certain cases. Meanwhile, five men from Bessemer have been charged with third-degree burglary in connection with illegal gambling machines that were found in a Lipscomb bingo hall after being shut down in Selma.

On the weather front, triple-digit temperatures were recorded in parts of the state, with Muscle Shoals reaching 102 degrees. South and Central Alabama saw some much-needed rain, while the rest of the state is expected to experience storms and showers today. Katie Britt has received a substantial advance for her upcoming book, “God Calls Us to Do Hard Things: Lessons from the Alabama Wiregrass.”
