Angelo Blackson, a veteran defensive tackle with 128 NFL regular-season games under his belt, was released by the Denver Broncos on Monday, along with 18 other players from various teams. The NFL is in the process of cutting down rosters from 90 players to the regular-season limit of 53 active players by 3 p.m. CDT on Tuesday.
Blackson, an Auburn alumnus, has played for five NFL teams since being drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 2015. He was also released during the roster cuts last year, but quickly signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Other players with Alabama football connections were also waived, including wide receiver Kawaan Baker by the New England Patriots, running back DeWayne McBride by the Minnesota Vikings, and cornerback Mikey Victor by the New England Patriots.
Baker, a seventh-round draft pick in 2021, has played in two NFL regular-season games, while McBride was a seventh-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and spent last season on the Vikings’ practice squad. Victor, an undrafted rookie from Alabama State, made four tackles on defense and one on special teams during the preseason.
These waived players have until 3 p.m. CDT on Tuesday to be claimed by other teams, or they will become free agents. The process of cutting down NFL rosters is ongoing and will continue to affect players in the coming days. Follow Mark Inabinett for more coverage of the NFL on AL.com.
