Will Reichard is the sole remaining kicker on the Minnesota Vikings’ roster

The Minnesota Vikings recently signed former Oxford High School standout Bobby McCain while waiving kicker John Parker Romo to make room on their training-camp roster for the veteran defensive back. This move left rookie Will Reichard as the only kicker on the team’s roster as they prepare for the 2024 season. Reichard, who was drafted from Alabama in the fifth round, had an impressive college career making 84-of-100 field goals and 295-of-297 extra points, scoring an NCAA record 547 points.

Greg Joseph had handled kicking duties for the Vikings in the previous three seasons but signed with the Green Bay Packers in March. Romo, who signed with Minnesota in March, has previously been on the rosters of the New Orleans Saints, Detroit Lions, and Chicago Bears but has never appeared in a regular-season game. Romo was the All-XFL kicker in the 2023 season, making 17-of-19 field goals for the San Antonio Brahmas.

The Vikings are gearing up for their preseason schedule, starting on Aug. 10 against the Las Vegas Raiders, and their regular-season opener on Sept. 8 against the New York Giants. This transaction has shifted the kicking responsibilities to Reichard, who will now have the opportunity to make his mark in the NFL. For more NFL coverage, visit the NFL page on AL.com.
