The 2024 Paris Olympics have officially kicked off with 14 medal events on the first day, and we have the scoop on how Alabama Olympians fared. Tanner Tessmann from Birmingham, now living in Venice and playing for Venezia FC, helped Team USA secure a 4-1 win in soccer against New Zealand. Paige Madden, a Mobile native and Silver medalist in Tokyo, came in sixth in the women’s 400m freestyle finals, with more events to come. Anton McKee, who attended the University of Alabama, competed in swimming but did not qualify for the 100m breaststroke semifinals. Victor Johansson, also an Alabama transfer, finished 18th in the men’s 400m freestyle heat and will not advance, with more races scheduled ahead. While the Alabama Olympians faced tough competition at the Games, they continue to represent their home state with pride and determination.
