Political action committees have already invested nearly half a million dollars in the race to represent Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District. Republican candidate Caroleene Dobson has received a significant amount of support from PACs, particularly those representing the agricultural industry and organizations promoting women in politics. Democrat Shomari Figures, on the other hand, has garnered support from various labor organizations.
Dobson has raised $797,190 this election cycle, with $190,800 coming from PACs. E-PAC Majority Makers and Value in Electing Women PAC are two of the PACs strongly supporting Dobson, both focused on electing Republican women. Meanwhile, Figures has raised $868,722, with $235,650 coming from PACs, including the American Federation of Teachers and the United Mine Workers of America.
The geographic distribution of PAC support varies for each candidate, with Dobson receiving contributions from PACs across Washington, D.C., Virginia, Maryland, New York, and Alabama, while Figures is primarily supported by PACs based in Washington, D.C.
Both candidates have articulated their commitment to representing the interests of their supporters, with Dobson highlighting her agricultural roots and Figures emphasizing his support for labor unions and workers’ rights.
