BIRMINGHAM, AL — In a tragic incident that unfolded on Sunday afternoon, a man was shot and killed while seated inside his SUV in North Birmingham. The shooting occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Center Street North. Responding to reports of gunfire, North Precinct officers located the victim in a gray SUV parked on the 10 block of 9th Avenue West, just a short distance from the original scene.
Emergency responders, including Birmingham firefighters, attempted life-saving measures before rushing the victim to UAB Hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Initial investigations suggest that the shooter approached the SUV on foot and fired multiple shots before fleeing the scene.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald emphasized the brazen nature of the crime, noting that it took place in broad daylight on a Sunday. The police are actively seeking assistance from the community, urging anyone with information to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
“This is a significant concern, and we need the public’s help,” Fitzgerald stated. This tragic event marks Birmingham’s 43rd homicide this year, contributing to a total of 67 homicides across Jefferson County.
