After more than ten years in the state legislature, Rep. Corey Harbison, R-Good Hope, has officially resigned from his position representing Alabama House District 12. Harbison submitted his resignation letter to Alabama Speaker of the House Nathaniel Ledbetter, expressing his desire to spend more time with his family, including his wife and three children.
Harbison had previously announced his intention to resign by April 15, which was not a surprise to his colleagues. In an interview with the Cullman Tribune in March, he emphasized the importance of being present for his children and stated that he values the title of “daddy” above all others.
While the dates for a special election to fill Harbison’s seat have not yet been set, he has mentioned the possibility of continuing to work for the city of Good Hope and even running for sheriff in the future. Despite considering a run for sheriff next year, he stated that he is still undecided and will take his time to make a decision.
Efforts to obtain further comments from Harbison regarding his resignation and future plans were not immediately successful. Harbison’s departure from the state legislature marks the end of his tenure as a representative, but he remains committed to serving his community in other capacities moving forward.
