Weather Alert: Central Alabama Braces for Rain and Colder Temperatures
Central Alabama is set to experience light showers this evening, paving the way for more significant rain and potential storms on Tuesday. Monday’s weather remains mild, cloudy, and damp, with hit-or-miss showers expected, although heavier rainfall will primarily affect the southern half of the state. Overnight showers will persist but will be light, providing brief respite before Tuesday’s forecast.
A cold front is scheduled to sweep into Alabama on Tuesday, bringing the possibility of showers and isolated storms, particularly in the southeastern portion of the state from late morning to the afternoon. While the risk of severe weather is considered marginal, any strong storms that develop may produce gusty winds, hail, heavy rain, and lightning. The most active storm period in Central Alabama is anticipated between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., with total rainfall expected to range from 0.5 to 1 inch on average; southern areas could see up to four inches.
Following the storms, a noticeable drop in temperatures is forecasted for Wednesday and Thursday as a strong cold front moves through. Rain is expected to clear early Wednesday morning, but temperatures will feel significantly colder, with "feels-like" conditions in the 20s and 30s. Expect sunny skies but little warmth, with highs only reaching the mid-40s.
Residents should prepare for another freeze by Thursday morning, with temperatures expected to fall into the 20s before rising again to the 50s later that afternoon. A dry spell will follow, although rain may return next weekend. For updates and the latest forecast, follow WVTM 13 News on social media.
