Alabama Power Enhances Fish Habitats on Lay Lake with Local Partnership
In a continued effort to improve Alabama’s fish habitats, Alabama Power, in collaboration with the University of Montevallo fishing team, Mossback Fish Habitat, fisheries biologist Steve Bardin, and professional angler Greg Vinson, has successfully installed Mossback fish habitats into Lay Lake. This initiative brings together professionals and students to enhance local fisheries and provide valuable learning experiences for future outdoor professionals.
Mike Clelland, an Environmental Affairs specialist at Alabama Power, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership. "The U of M students have collaborated with us on several fish habitat enhancement projects over the years. This involvement not only deepens their understanding of fisheries management but also introduces them to various outdoor-related careers," he stated.
Alabama Power has a rich history of engaging in fish habitat enhancement initiatives, a commitment that remains a high priority for the company. Earlier this year, it partnered with Major League Fishing (MLF) to deploy artificial habitats at the Minn Kota Habitat Restoration Project, supported by the KVD Foundation and Mossback Fish Habitat, during a Renew Our Rivers cleanup event.
The company recognizes the essential role of volunteers in the success of these cleanups, which are held across Alabama’s lakes, rivers, and streams. This year marked the 25th anniversary of the Renew Our Rivers cleanup campaign, which collaborates with local homeowner and nonprofit organizations as well as committed individuals.
