Ohio Family Finds Closure in Tragic Loss of Missing Hiker in Alabama State Park
The family of Vendula “Wendy” Rose, an Ohio mother and passionate hiker who went missing in Alabama, has expressed a mix of sorrow and gratitude after learning of her remains’ recovery. Rose, who went missing on October 4 after departing for a camping trip from Ohio, was discovered near Cheaha State Park on November 30, following an extensive search.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Sarah Rose, Wendy’s sister-in-law, shared the family’s grief, stating, "It is with great sadness that we report that Wendy was found deceased today. Although this was not the outcome we were hoping for, we realize that having closure is a blessing." She extended her thanks to the hunter who found Wendy’s remains and promptly reported it, allowing for recovery.
The community came together in support, creating the “Missing Wendy Rose” Facebook group, which has attracted over 1,500 members. This platform served as a space for family and friends to share cherished memories while rallying support during the search. Wendy’s daughter, Dana Rose, mourned her mother on social media, expressing her deep sorrow, "I miss you more than words describe. The pain in my heart only grows with every minute without you." Her words also paid tribute to Wendy’s Czech heritage, as she shared, “mám tě ráda maminka,” meaning "I love you Mom."
Wendy Rose’s vehicle was discovered at the Pinhoti Trailhead, and her remains were later found about five miles south of the park. To date, law enforcement has not announced a cause of death or provided further details. The family continues to seek answers while cherishing the memories of a beloved mother and friend.
