Late-Night Host Critiques Tommy Tuberville for Supporting Trump’s ‘Cellmate’ Cabinet Selections

Kimmel Mocks Senator Tuberville for Trump Defense

In a segment aired Wednesday night, late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel delivered a scathing critique of U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., while discussing President-elect Donald Trump’s recent Cabinet appointments. Kimmel labeled Tuberville a “Trump sycophant/human jockstrap” after airing a clip of the senator defending Trump on Fox News amid mounting controversies surrounding the former president’s administration choices.

During his appearance, Tuberville focused on dismissing allegations against Trump’s associates, suggesting that accusations are often based on “rumors” rather than facts. He specifically referenced Matt Gaetz, who recently stepped down from his role as Trump’s nominee for attorney general due to scrutiny stemming from a federal sex trafficking investigation. Tuberville defended Trump’s choices, insisting that the latter “is not going to pick somebody that’s a criminal.”

Kimmel, however, pushed back against Tuberville’s defense, humorously declaring, “Tommy, I’ve got some news you might want to hear. The President is a criminal. Thirty-four times over he’s a convicted criminal.” He further quipped that Trump doesn’t seem to be searching for cabinet members but rather for "cellmates," referencing Trump’s legal troubles.

These comments follow a New York jury’s recent verdict that found Trump guilty of 34 felony charges related to efforts to illegally influence the 2016 election via a hush money payment. As Trump prepares for sentencing, Tuberville has not yet responded to Kimmel’s sharp criticisms, leaving audiences to wonder about the implications for the Republican party as it navigates Trump’s contentious legacy.
