The former Alabama high school girls’ basketball coach, Donald Roberts, who later became a substitute teacher, has been indicted by a grand jury on two counts of having sexual contact with a student under the age of 19. Roberts, 74, coached the Red Bay High School girls’ basketball team before the allegations surfaced last year. Three female students came forward with accusations that Roberts asked them to help him with a computer at the school, during which the incidents allegedly occurred. The Red Bay Police Chief, Janna Jackson, stated that Roberts was arrested last Wednesday and booked into the county jail on the charges. He was released after posting bond. The indictment was the result of an investigation by the Department of Human Resources. As of Monday, Roberts’ case was not yet listed in online state court records. The news of the former coach’s indictment is concerning for the community and school where he once worked. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward. The allegations against Roberts highlight the importance of protecting students and maintaining appropriate boundaries between teachers and students. The case serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance and accountability in educational settings.
