The University of Alabama has set a new enrollment record with over 40,000 students for the first time, including a record-high number of first-year students from within the state. Total enrollment for Fall 2024 is 40,846, with 3,434 freshmen from Alabama, marking the largest number of in-state freshmen ever. This represents a 7.9% increase and continues a trend of growth in in-state student enrollment for the sixth consecutive year.
UA President Dr. Stuart R. Bell attributes the university’s continued popularity to its world-class opportunities, faculty strength, research expansion, and top-notch facilities. Overall student growth increased by 4.7%, with second-year student retention hitting nearly 90%, an all-time high. Graduate school enrollment also saw a significant jump of 5.4%, with 6,001 students enrolled, including an 8.3% increase in the number of in-state graduate students.
The university also saw a record enrollment of 10,111 minority students, an 8.3% increase from the previous year. UA’s diverse student body represents all 67 Alabama counties, all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and 95 countries. This continued growth and diversity further solidify UA’s reputation as a top choice for students seeking a meaningful degree and a comprehensive educational experience.
