Auburn Tigers Dominate North Alabama 102-69 in Neville Arena
AUBURN — The No. 4 Auburn Tigers showcased their prowess with a commanding 102-69 victory over North Alabama on Monday night, highlighted by a remarkable 30-point performance from star forward Johni Broome. Broome’s display was complemented by 17 rebounds, marking his 62nd career double-double and tying his personal best at Auburn.
The game began with North Alabama’s Jacari Lane taking the lead, scoring 17 points in the first half. However, Auburn responded emphatically after halftime, launching a 17-6 run that shifted the momentum in their favor. By the midway point, Auburn had matched their average of 82 points per game, bolstered by strong contributions from players like Miles Kelly, who added 10 points, and Broome, who continued to excel with 13 second-half points.
Defensively, the Tigers stifled Lane, limiting him to just two points in the second half and forcing eight turnovers, which they converted into 15 points. Auburn’s shooting was exceptional, with a 62% field goal percentage and 44% from beyond the arc, with five players reaching double figures.
Despite a bench-clearing moment in the final minutes, including contributions from walk-ons Presley Patterson and CJ Williams, the Tigers’ offensive frenzy delighted the home crowd as they crossed the 100-point mark.
Notably absent were Jahki Howard and Ja’Heim Hudson, who participated in pregame activities but did not play following an airplane incident. Coach Bruce Pearl remarked that they were addressing the situation directly and could potentially return for the upcoming Maui Invitational, where the Tigers are set to face No. 5 Iowa State next Monday.
