Lucid Group and KAUST Forge Partnership for Electric Vehicle Technology Innovation
King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia – May 9, 2025 – Lucid Group, Inc., a leading electric vehicle manufacturer, has announced a strategic partnership with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) to advance electric vehicle (EV), advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and autonomous driving technologies.
Marc Winterhoff, Interim CEO of Lucid, emphasized the significance of KAUST’s exceptional research capabilities, stating, “This collaboration not only enhances our technology leadership in ADAS and EV innovation but also strengthens our global R&D footprint.” He highlighted the commitment to align with the Kingdom’s vision of becoming a global hub for mobility innovation.
Sir Edward Byrne AC, President of KAUST, expressed pride in the partnership, noting it merges KAUST’s research prowess with Lucid’s practical EV experience. He underscored the collaboration’s potential to foster groundbreaking developments in electric vehicle technology.
The partnership aims to leverage high-performance computing resources to accelerate engineering advancements across multiple domains, including materials science and AI. Eric Bach, SVP of Product and Chief Engineer at Lucid, remarked on the transformative potential of this collaboration for developing advanced materials, simulating real-world physics for safety optimization, and enhancing AI training for autonomous systems.
Joint initiatives will focus on the design and prototyping of next-generation components, integrating various engineering disciplines. Key research areas will include the development of high-performance composites and innovative materials aimed at boosting vehicle efficiency and durability.
All collaborative research and development activities will take place at KAUST’s cutting-edge laboratories situated in King Abdullah Economic City.
