Abu Dhabi Hosts Inaugural Governance of Emerging Technologies Summit 2025
Abu Dhabi, May 6, 2025 — The inaugural Governance of Emerging Technologies Summit (GETS 2025) concluded in Abu Dhabi, addressing critical issues like AI ethics, cross-border data governance, and cybersecurity resilience. Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the event was organized by the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) in partnership with the UAE Public Prosecution, attracting 1,000 participants from over 20 countries, including policymakers and technologists.
Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, highlighted the UAE’s proactive investments in a national AI ecosystem that prioritizes responsibility and innovation. He emphasized the nation’s commitment to shaping the future of advanced technologies through strategic governance initiatives.
UAE Attorney General Chancellor Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi asserted that advancements in technology must serve humanity’s higher purpose. This philosophy aligns with the recent launch of the Global Regulatory Innovation Platform (GRIP) by the UAE government and the World Economic Forum, aimed at crafting human-centered legislation amid rapid digital changes.
High-profile discussions included insights from Maryam bint Ahmed Al Hammadi, Minister of State and Secretary General of the UAE Cabinet, on embedding responsible tech governance into long-term national policy. Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri, Minister of Education, shared the importance of incorporating AI into academic curriculums to prepare future generations.
Sector-specific panels explored AI’s implications in healthcare, civil defense, and manufacturing, demonstrating the need for adaptive governance frameworks to enhance efficiency and protect data integrity.
The Summit underscored the necessity for cybersecurity and digital inclusion, with calls for a global charter addressing human-AI interactions and enhancing ethical frameworks.
