The Government of Canada, through Prairies Economic Development Canada, has announced investments of over $6.3 million in Saskatchewan to support business growth and innovation. These investments, made through various programs, aim to help businesses access tools and resources needed to start up, scale up, and bring innovative products and services to new markets.
Minister Dan Vandal highlighted the importance of supporting local businesses and communities to move towards a net-zero emissions economy. The investments were based on local priorities identified through extensive consultations and will support a wide range of sectors, including Indigenous businesses.
Non-repayable investments will help start-ups navigate the initial stages of establishing and growing their businesses, while repayable investments will support high-growth businesses in scaling up and expanding with new products and services. Examples of projects receiving funding include Andgo Systems Inc., Indigenous Manufacturing and Contracting Network Inc., and Saskarc Inc.
The support from PrairiesCan has been instrumental in helping businesses like Andgo Systems Inc. expand their market presence and scale up operations, ultimately creating more opportunities for growth and job creation. Saskarc Inc. has utilized the funding to purchase automated processing equipment to increase their fabrication capacity and compete in the infrastructure market across Canada and the U.S.
Overall, the investments made by PrairiesCan are expected to boost economic opportunities, foster innovation, and create lasting impacts in Saskatchewan’s regional economic ecosystems. The government aims to support businesses in scaling up, enhancing productivity, and contributing to the development of a prosperous green Prairie economy.
