Union Health Minister JP Nadda emphasized the importance of liver care at the ‘Liver Health Pledge Ceremony’ in New Delhi. He highlighted that fatty liver is preventable and reversible through lifestyle changes and healthy food choices. Nadda warned that fatty liver increases the risk of serious health problems like heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer.
Nadda urged people to make simple changes in their daily habits, such as reducing oil usage in cooking by 10%, to improve liver health and prevent non-communicable diseases. He called on everyone to take a pledge to care for their liver, go for regular check-ups, and follow a healthy lifestyle. This year’s ‘World Liver Day’ theme, ‘Food is Medicine,’ focused on the connection between nutrition and liver health.
The Health Ministry, in collaboration with FSSAI and ILBS, organized a liver health camp and exhibition promoting liver-friendly foods like millets, cruciferous vegetables, leafy greens, fatty fish, nuts, citrus fruits, and healthy fats like olive oil. These foods are rich in antioxidants, fiber, and essential nutrients that support liver health, bile production, reduce inflammation, and aid digestion. They can help prevent liver diseases like NAFLD.
