Press Release: Shenzhen Science & Technology Museum Completion Marks Architectural and Environmental Milestone
Shenzhen, Guangming District – Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) has successfully completed the Shenzhen Science & Technology Museum, a landmark designed to enhance the region’s commitment to scientific research and innovation. Strategically positioned near Guangming Station, the museum serves as a key attraction within the city’s emerging Science Park.
Covering an impressive 35,000 square meters of exhibition space, the museum incorporates a series of outdoor terraces that seamlessly connect the interior galleries with the surrounding park. This design fosters public engagement with science and encourages relaxation and reflection within its expansive central atrium, bathed in natural light through a full glass wall.
The innovative structure features 6,000 square meters dedicated to immersive theaters, alongside educational labs and supportive spaces. Each element is intricately designed to guide visitors through interconnected display areas, showcasing advanced digital design techniques that create complex spatial experiences.
Sustainability is integral to the museum’s design, employing passive environmental strategies and advanced modeling to optimize solar orientation and reduce energy consumption. A ventilated cavity façade made of stainless steel panels enhances passive cooling while integrated photovoltaic systems enable on-site energy generation. The museum is notable as China’s first large-scale application of dual-color INCO stainless steel technology, aiming for the highest three-star rating under China’s Green Building Evaluation Standard.
Furthermore, the project utilized around 389,239 tons of recycled materials and implements greywater recycling, reducing overall water usage significantly.
The Shenzhen Science & Technology Museum stands as a testament to Shenzhen’s technological ambitions and ZHA’s creative vision, combining advanced architectural techniques with a strong commitment to sustainability. The museum is poised to become a vital hub for science and innovation in the region.
