Young Man Discovered Dead in Alley After Nearly 50 Gunshots Fired in West Birmingham Area

Tragic Shooting Claims Life of Young Man in West Birmingham Neighborhood

BIRMINGHAM, AL – A young man was shot and killed Tuesday night in a violent incident that saw nearly 50 rounds fired in the 1800 block of Princeton Court S.W. Birmingham police received reports of a person shot shortly after 11:45 p.m., discovering the victim’s body in an alley, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Prior to the fatal shooting, officers responded to three Shot Spotter notifications at approximately 10:10 p.m., which registered a total of 49 gunshots in the area. Upon their initial arrival, police found shell casings and observed gunshot damage to two vehicles and a residential property; however, there were no injuries reported at that time.

It is believed that the victim, a man between the ages of 18 and 25, was located by a family member more than an hour later after being shot. Initial investigations suggest he attempted to flee after being shot but collapsed in the alley.

This tragic incident marks the 147th homicide in Birmingham for the year 2024 and the first fatal shooting in the city in over two weeks. Out of the total homicides, 11 have been classified as justifiable, and a few involved shootings that occurred in prior years, with victims dying in the current year. Overall, Jefferson County has recorded 187 homicides in 2024.

Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to reach out to detectives at 205-254-1764 or to contact Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777 to aid in the ongoing investigation.

As the Birmingham community grapples with this senseless act of violence, local leaders continue to seek solutions to the rising crime rates plaguing the area.
