Svetlana Dali appeared in federal court in Brooklyn and has been charged with being a stowaway after boarding a flight from New York to Paris without a ticket. Her attorney compared her actions to jumping a turnstile, and she could face up to five years in prison if convicted. Dali did not enter a plea during her arraignment, but is expected to return to court for further proceedings after a temporary detention order is confirmed. Despite completing security screening, she managed to bypass two checkpoints and board the Delta flight without a ticket, but was eventually caught by Delta employees before landing in Paris. French authorities detained her upon arrival in Paris, where she was denied entry and returned to the U.S. Dali admitted to taking the flight without a boarding pass during an interview with FBI agents. TSA officials noted that bypassing security checkpoints is rare and difficult to accomplish. Despite her belief that her life is in danger while detained, Dali will remain in custody until further court proceedings.
