Will Wade Takes Aim at UNC Following Ven-Allen Lubin Transfer to NC State
In a bold move soon after his appointment as NC State’s head coach, Will Wade wasted no time sending a message to rival North Carolina. Wade directed his criticism toward Tar Heels head coach Hubert Davis regarding the underutilization of forward Ven-Allen Lubin, who recently transferred to NC State.
Last season at North Carolina, Lubin, a 6-foot-8 forward from Orlando, played only a handful of games with significant minutes—28 or more in just five games—averaging 8.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. This lack of playing time ultimately influenced his decision to join Wade in Raleigh, where he aims to enhance his performance.
During a recent One Pack NIL Collective event at Tobacco Road Sports Cafe, Wade declared his intentions for Lubin’s future, stating, “Ven is somebody, the other school was too dumb to not play him. When he plays 28 plus minutes — he’s done that in 23 games — he averages 15 (points) and 8 (rebounds). I don’t know why the hell they didn’t play him but, we’re gonna play him so, he’s gonna average 15 and 8. We’re excited about Ven.”
The comments, which have caused a stir among college basketball fans, reflect Wade’s ambition to make an immediate impact with his new team while also igniting the rivalry between NC State and UNC. As the season approaches, all eyes will be on Lubin to see if he can meet the high expectations set by his new coach.
With Wade’s fiery introduction and the promise of increased playing time, Lubin may very well become a key player for NC State come November. The stage is set for a thrilling basketball season in North Carolina.
