Ohio State Names Julian Sayin as Starting Quarterback for 2025 Season
As Ohio State gears up for the 2025 season, the defending national champions are welcoming a new face at quarterback. With Will Howard moving on to the NFL, head coach Ryan Day has chosen sophomore Julian Sayin as the team’s starting passer.
Sayin’s transfer to Ohio State from Alabama was marked by a whirlwind of changes. The Carlsbad, California native initially committed to the Crimson Tide in 2022, training briefly under the mentorship of quarterback Jalen Milroe as an early enrollee. However, following Nick Saban’s retirement in January 2024 after the team’s unexpected playoff loss to Michigan, Sayin sought a new opportunity. On January 21, 2024, just a week after enrolling at Alabama, he announced his transfer to Ohio State.
Ranked as the top quarterback in the 2024 class by 247Sports, Sayin’s skills caught the attention of multiple elite programs during his high school career, where he was named the 2023 Gatorade California Player of the Year. After transferring, Sayin played a backup role in four games during his freshman season, completing 5 of 12 passes for 84 yards and a touchdown, including a 55-yard touchdown pass in a 56-0 victory over Western Michigan.
Now, with increased expectations for the upcoming season, Sayin will look to capitalize on his potential as he takes over Ohio State’s offense. His strong performance in high school, coupled with his experience training at a premier program like Alabama, positions him as a quarterback to watch as the Buckeyes aim to defend their national title.
