Alabama softball team secured a much-needed Southeastern Conference series win last weekend by defeating defending four-time national champion Oklahoma. Now, they are gearing up to face another highly ranked SEC opponent, Florida, in a three-game series starting on Thursday night.
Alabama, currently tied for No. 17 in the ESPN/USA Softball poll, is tied for ninth place in the conference alongside South Carolina and Ole Miss. On the other hand, Florida, ranked No. 7 this week, is tied for fourth in the league with Tennessee and Mississippi State.
In their last series, Alabama lost the first game but rallied to win the next two, with freshman Audrey Vandagriff hitting a walk-off home run in the series finale. Vandagriff, who was named the SEC Freshman of the Week, leads the Crimson Tide in batting average at .430. Senior Kali Heivilin leads the team in home runs with 12.
Florida, meanwhile, has won three SEC road series this season but is still seeking their first SEC series win at home. Sophomore Mia Williams was named the SEC Co-Player of the Week after hitting three home runs in their last series. Senior Kendra Falby leads the Gators in batting average at .463.
The upcoming series between Alabama and Florida is set to be an exciting matchup, with Alabama leading the all-time series 46-43. The games will take place at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium in Gainesville, Florida, with the first game scheduled for Thursday night.
