Alex Van Halen revealed in a recent interview with Rolling Stone that a Van Halen reunion tour was canceled because lead singer David Lee Roth refused to pay tribute to the late Eddie Van Halen. The plan for the tour fell through following an explosive argument over honoring the band’s cofounder. Alex Van Halen had suggested acknowledging Eddie in the gig similar to how Queen honors Freddie Mercury, but Roth allegedly refused. Although disappointed about the canceled tour, Alex Van Halen remains in touch with Roth and believes that playing the old songs is not a proper tribute. He is set to release a memoir entitled “Brothers” that chronicles his childhood with Eddie Van Halen and their time in the band. Alex Van Halen admits to feeling “oceanic grief” after his brother’s death and has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. Despite the pain of loss, he mentions feeling his brother’s presence at times and believes they achieved what they were meant to do. Reflecting on Eddie’s passing, Alex Van Halen expresses missing him and wanting to make things right. He concludes that wherever Eddie is, he is at peace.
