USPS will restart accepting shipments from China

The U.S. Postal Service has reversed its decision to stop accepting shipments from China and Hong Kong, less than 24 hours after announcing it would do so. The decision comes in response to the Trump administration’s new 10% tariffs on goods from China. The Postal Service and Customs and Border Protection are working together to implement an efficient collection mechanism for the new tariffs. Letters and flats were not affected by the initial announcement. The halt in shipments from China was due to the removal of a “de minimis” exemption for Chinese goods worth less than $800. China had warned of taking necessary measures to protect its companies and urged the U.S. to stop politicizing economic and trade issues. The Postal Service will resume accepting all international inbound mail and packages from China and Hong Kong starting on February 5, 2025.
