Uncovering the Details of the Suspect in the Arson Case at Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s Home

Cody A. Balmer, 38, has been charged with attempted criminal homicide, aggravated arson, burglary, terrorism, and other counts in connection with an arson at Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro’s home. Balmer allegedly climbed over the fence of the residence, broke a window with a hammer, and threw Molotov cocktails inside to start the blaze. The fire erupted around 2 a.m., but no one was injured, and the family was safely evacuated. Balmer admitted to harboring hatred towards Governor Shapiro and said he would have beaten him with his hammer if found inside the residence. Surveillance footage showed Balmer breaking the window, entering the home, and deploying a second incendiary device in the dining room. Investigators found broken glass beer bottles containing gasoline in the dining room and located gloves matching the suspect’s in a trash can with a strong smell of gasoline. Balmer fled the scene but turned himself in to the Pennsylvania State Police on Sunday. The attack caused substantial damage to the residence, and Balmer now faces serious charges in connection with the incident.
